Proposition 1: K-12 Expanded Student Capacity, School Improvements & Safety Upgrades

Classroom overcrowding is a growing issue, with 9 out of 14 schools already overcapacity and 4 more nearly at their limits. To address this, a 31-member community advisory committee of parents and community members with backgrounds in design, construction, and education, carefully reviewed our district’s needs. Prop. 1 supports their future-ready recommendations, making essential investments to make sure every student receives the high-quality education they need to succeed.

Prop. 1 is critical for building our schools. Passing Prop. 1 now, is a crucial step to fully support our students and our growing community. While levies ensure quality education and support daily operations, this bond will address the urgent need for expanded capacity, essential repairs, and enhanced safety infrastructure. Together, the levies and this bond measure work hand-in-hand to provide both the resources and the infrastructure our students need to thrive, ensuring that our investment in their education is comprehensive and future-ready.

Proposition 1...

Builds, expands, and improves schools to reduce overcrowding. Prop. 1 tackles overcrowding in our schools by finishing construction of Sumner High School, expanding Bonney Lake High School, building a new middle school in Tehaleh, and improving five elementary schools. With student enrollment increasing by 18% over the past decade and projected to grow another 16% in the next, Prop. 1 provides the additional space needed for students to learn and thrive.

Saves money and takes care of basic needs. Voting for this bond will fund crucial repairs and upgrades, including fixing deteriorating roofs and upgrading mechanical systems to maintain clean air and safe water. These investments will prevent costly future repairs and save $167,899 annually through energy-efficient lighting conversions. Let’s protect our schools—and our budget—by securing a safer, more efficient learning environment for our children.

Prepares students for successful careers. Prop 1. expands Career and Technical Education (CTE) opportunities for all middle and high schools. The extra space and resources will equip students to learn practical skills to meet the demands of today’s job market.

Ensures healthy, safe, and accessible schools. Approving Prop. 1 will fund crucial upgrades, including controlled classroom access, ADA accessibility, and earthquake safety, ensuring that our schools are safe and inclusive. It also funds parking and traffic improvements to traffic improvements for better pickup and drop-offs for families.

Creates new fields for students and community members. Supporting Prop. 1 will build new turf fields and upgrade athletic facilities, providing safe, multi-use spaces for students and community members year-round. This bond replaces aging athletic facilities, replacing them with modern, high-quality spaces that promote fitness, teamwork, and community engagement. By voting yes, we invest in facilities that will benefit everyone, now and for years to come.

Invests in our children while maintaining the average residential tax rate. Not only does Prop. 1 invest $732 million in our kids, it also saves money in the long run. With this bond, the average school tax rate of $4.64 per $1,000 of assessed property value is projected to slightly decrease to $4.63 over the next five years. For just $70 more per year per $100K of assessed property value, we can make a lasting impact on our schools and community. Proposition 1 will improve every school in the district.

By November 5, vote yes—endorsed by the community! Our students are worth it.
